The Reliability of God's Revelation

Scripture:
  2 Peter 1:19-21
"We also have the prophetic message as something completely reliable, and you will do well to pay attention to it, as to a light shining in a dark place, until the day dawns and the morning star rises in your hearts. Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet's own interpretation of things. For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit."

Reflection:

Peter makes an extraordinary claim here: Scripture is "completely reliable." Not mostly reliable. Not reliable for its time but outdated now. Completely reliable. Why? Because it didn't originate from human wisdom or interpretation—it came from God Himself as the Holy Spirit carried human authors along.
This means when we read the Bible, we're not just reading ancient literature or the opinions of religious men. We're reading God's very words to us. The prophets and apostles didn't make things up or write from their own understanding—they were instruments through which God revealed His truth.
In our dark world, filled with confusion and competing voices, Scripture shines as a reliable light showing us the way forward. We can stake our lives on it.

Prayer:

Heavenly Father, thank You that Your Word is completely reliable. Thank You that You didn't leave us to figure life out on our own, but gave us Your revelation through Scripture. Help me to trust Your Word more than my feelings, more than popular opinion, more than cultural trends. Let Your Word be the light that guides every decision I make. Holy Spirit, illuminate Scripture to my heart as I read it. Amen.

Action:

Spend time today reading one book of the Bible (try a shorter one like Philippians, James, or 1 John). As you read, thank God for each truth He reveals and ask Him how to apply it to your life today. Write down one specific way you'll live differently because of what you've read.
