Scripture:
Luke 12:20-21
"But God said to him, 'Fool! This night your soul is required of you, and the things you have prepared, whose will they be?' So is the one who lays up treasure for himself and is not rich toward God."
Reflection:
The rich man had full silos but an empty soul. Jesus asks the sobering question: "What will it profit a man if he gains the whole world yet forfeits his soul?" Being rich toward God means measuring your life by what matters to God and has eternal value—faith in God, obedience to God, and generosity for God. We become rich toward God when we use the wealth He gives us to spread the gospel, sustain the mission of the church, and supply the needs of others. This life is meant to prepare us for the next. Are you building a life that ends at the grave or one that extends into eternity?
Prayer:
Lord Jesus, I don't want to be a fool who stores up treasures for myself while neglecting eternal riches. Help me to be rich toward You through faith, obedience, and generosity. Show me how to invest the resources You've given me into Your kingdom purposes. May my life count for eternity, not just for the temporary comfort of this world. Amen.
Action:
Identify one way you can be "rich toward God" this week: increase your faith by spending extra time in prayer, demonstrate obedience in an area where you've been resisting God, or show generosity by giving to someone in need or to a ministry spreading the gospel.
