Building for Generations You'll Never Meet

Scripture:
Psalm 78:4-7
"We will not hide them from their descendants; we will tell the next generation the praiseworthy deeds of the LORD, his power, and the wonders he has done... so the next generation would know them, even the children yet to be born, and they in turn would tell their children. Then they would put their trust in God."

Reflection:

Thirty years ago, a group of people felt called to plant a spirit-filled church in their community. They had no idea you would be sitting here today, reading this devotion, growing in your faith because of their obedience. They built for you. Now it's your turn. The decisions you make today—to serve faithfully, give generously, pray consistently, live obediently—are building the church that will exist 30 years from now. You're not just attending services; you're constructing a spiritual legacy. Someone you'll never meet will encounter Jesus because you were faithful in your "such a time as this" moment. Build well.

Prayer:
Lord, give me a multigenerational vision for my life and my church. Help me think beyond my own needs and preferences to consider what future generations will need. Make me a faithful builder, laying foundations that others will build upon. Let my investments of time, talent, and treasure create spiritual infrastructure that will serve Your kingdom long after I'm gone. I want to hear "well done" not just for what I accomplished, but for what I made possible for others. Amen.

Action:

Make one specific investment this week in the next generation: volunteer in children's or youth ministry, financially support a ministry that serves young people, mentor someone younger in the faith, or pray daily for the children and youth of your church by name.
