The Cost of Courage

Scripture:
Esther 4:16
"Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me. Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king, even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish."

Reflection:

"If I perish, I perish." Five words that changed history. Esther's obedience wasn't comfortable, convenient, or safe, but it was necessary. She counted the cost and chose courage over comfort. God's legacy isn't built through our convenience; it's built through our willingness to obey even when it's hard. What is God asking you to do that feels risky? What step of faith requires you to say, "If I perish, I perish"? Remember: courage isn't the absence of fear; it's obedience in spite of it.

Prayer:

Lord, I confess that I often choose comfort over courage. Forgive me for the times I've let fear keep me from obedience. Give me Esther's boldness to step forward even when the outcome is uncertain. Help me trust that You are with me in every risk I take for Your kingdom. Make me willing to say, "If I perish, I perish, but I will obey." Amen.

Action:

Identify one area where God has been prompting you to act but fear has held you back. Take one concrete step of obedience today, no matter how small. Share your commitment with a trusted friend who can pray for you.
